Jack Sings his Favorite Songs...or at least some of them

Jack has been singing all summer.  So we thought we'd try to capture him singing some of his songs.  I'll put them in order from earliest to most recent.

May 23, 2012
Jack singing "Itsy, Bitsy, Spider" and "Jesus Loves Me".  I video taped this with the camera flipped so that we could see what was being filmed.  I was trying to get out of the way of the camera but Jack just followed me.

"Mickey Mouse Clubhouse"  At the time this was Jack's favorite show.  Ben likes to laugh because Jack holds his hand and points up when he hits a higher note.

Real Lyrics
"It's the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, come inside, it's fun inside...M I C K E Y   M O U S E, that's me!"

"Hickory Dickory Dock"  I have never sung this song to him but I think Ben had a few times.  It just surprised me when he started "singing" it.

July 15, 2012
"Aggie War Hymn"  S of today (August 22) Jack can sing almost the whole song.

"Jesus Loves Me"

July 24,2012
"ABC Song"

What's in a Name?

Kyle Reid Goodyear

How did we come up with that name?  It wasn't easy.  When we found out we were having another boy, I don't know about Ben but I didn't have any other boy names (at that time) that I could think of.  I didn't have any girls names either but that's a different story.

So, Ben and I sat down every couple of nights and looked at the internet at tons of baby boy names.  We found out pretty fast that we both had very different views on names.  I liked the more modern names like Braeden and Ian and he liked old fashioned names like Charles and Joshua.  We decided that looking online each night was getting us nowhere.

Then we decided to each take some time to think and pray about the names we really liked, write them down on the notes app on our i-phones and then come together and discuss each name.  When we came together we each had about 10 names on our list.  There was only one name on both of our lists - Kyle.

Originally when we were picking out Jack's name we had tossed around the name Kyle for a potential middle name but decided if we liked it that much we should keep it aside just in-case we have another boy... we did!  Even though Kyle was on both lists we still went down each list and said yay or nay to each name.  One of the other names I had on my list was Reid.  When we got to Kyle on our lists Ben joked and said "we could name him Kyle Reed after Kyle Field and Reed Arena, haha".  I knew he was joking but I liked the sound Kyle Reid, of course spelled the way I had originally had it on my list.

So after Ben and I tried to convince each other of a few other names on our lists, we finally just told each other we really like Kyle Reid.  I think Ben was worried about the whole A&M aspect of it, but I didn't care, I liked it.

Most people who aren't Aggies don't even know what Kyle Field is so I thought I'd include a video of one of the A&M promotion videos that they show to get the crowds pumped up at the football games.

We also ordered this painting to go in Kyle's room.  The artist is Benjamin Knox, a former Aggie.  We wanted a picture of Kyle Field for his room.  The ring on our painting has the year '04 on it just like Ben's ring.

We have this painting already hanging above our fire place from Benjamin Knox:

Fourth of July 2012

We, I, lucked out this year.  There were about 3 days that were below normal temperatures.  Luckily those fell on days when we would be outside for events.

On July  1st, we went with Ben’s family to the Concerts in the Garden at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.  We have done this now each year since I’ve known Ben.  His whole family gets together and rents 3 tables.  We eat homemade fried chicken and other picnic things.  Then around 8pm the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra plays the Patriotic Concert and around 9:30 or so as they are ending with the traditional Patriotic marches the fireworks go off.

Here are all of the Goodyear grandchildren with KK and Papa

Jack chillin with daddy

I thought it was so cute how Jack put is arm around Ben

Jack wasn’t that interested in the symphony that much.  There wasn’t anything to keep his attention and he’d much rather play on someone’s phone or walk around.  But there was one time when he got into the music and had fun waving his flag.

Jack really enjoyed the fireworks this year.  I think he was shocked when they began but loved them.  He would open his mouth so wide each time they would pop.  He would also close his eyes when there were a lot of them in the sky because it was so bright...he does not like bright things.

July 3rd - Light Up Arlington
Our city has been putting on a Fourth of July event the day before the Fourth for a few years now.  This happens at the Levitt Pavilion which is literally right next door to our church.  So, our church is in charge of getting volunteers together to man the children's area.  This was our first year to attend and I was actually supposed to sing with the choir, but since it was really hot (especially for an 8/9 month pregnant woman) I decided it wasn't such a great idea.

So we decided to go to the children's area and were waiting to meet up with Jack's friend James.  While we waited we visited the children's petting area.  Below is Jack brushing the goat.

I was extremely hot and if we hadn't told Jack that we were going to see James we probably would have left after we had been there about 20 minutes.  But all Jack kept saying was "James, see James?"  Below is James and Jack holding hands.  I have no idea how this started but they were so cute.

I think we were about to walk across a "street" which is why we were all holding hands.  Notice Jack's face...he's not sunburned he just gets red in the face when he is hot.

We then traveled over to the radio Disney side and came upon this poster of "Jake and the pirates".  This is a new favorite of Jack's.  He was very excited to see Jake.

We had to get one more pregnant picture of Jennifer and me.  She was being induced 4 days from this picture.  Jennifer is James' mom.

July 4th - Parade
If you know me well enough, you know I love the 4th of July parade Arlington puts on.  Although, I haven't been the past two years.  Last year, I decided at the last minute that I just couldn't get everything together the night before the parade that Jack would need.  So we spent a relaxing day as a family.  THIS YEAR, Ben's parents offered to take Jack to the parade if we wanted.  I was thrilled.  A part of me was sad to miss again but I was glad Jack could go.  And this was the first time in a while where someone was watching Jack and I could do anything I needed to do.  Usually when the grandparents watch him it is because I have to work, run millions of errands, or have something important that I have to go to.  So I spent most of the morning putting baby Kyle's name and firetruck decal on his wall above his bed.  Here it is:

The rest of the day was spent relaxing and playing with Jack.

Father's Day with Grandpa and Sissy

For father's day we decided to take my dad and Sherry (aka Grandpa and Sissy) to the Rangers game.  I had always heard my dad say he wouldn't go to a Ranger game unless he had someone drive him there...meaning he wouldn't have to deal with the crowds.  So we thought it would be fun to take them with Jack.

The day we went was a very special day.  It was Snow Monkey day at the ballpark.  The first 10,000 kids to show up would get a free Snow Monkey.  The snow monkey story has to do with Nolan Ryan and how he was ambassador to the Snow Monkeys in Texas.  It's a crazy story and Ben's favorite radio station, 1310 The Ticket kind of made it a popular story.  If you want to hear all of the details you can so here.

So below is the snow monkey that Jack got.  Surprisingly it was super soft.  Possibly because it was made by Build-A-Bear.

Ben and Jack ran ahead of the rest of us since we had to get our bags checked....just to make sure they got a snow monkey.  Here is Jack holding his.

Jack showing the rest of us his snow monkey.  It is now one of the stuffed animals that lives in his bed.

Jack and Grandpa having fun at the game.

Jack and daddy watching the rangers.  "Go Rangers!" as Jack likes to say.

One of Jack's favorite thing to do right now is race.  So as we were leaving the game he raced Grandpa back to the car.  In doing this they would both start out together running, then a little ways down, Grandpa would turn around and Jack would run under his leg.  Then they would repeat this process about 20 times till we got to the car.
